Earth Tones is owned by Kyle and Lisa Turoczi at 212 Grassy Hill Road in Woodbury, CT.
Kyle, after high school, became an equipment operator during which time he started questioning the existing landscape practices. Feeling that there must be a better, more environmental approach he obtained a degree in environmental science with a focus on wetland ecology from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry. He later went back to school to become a soil scientist and a member of the Society of Soil Scientists of Southern New England. In the spring of 2012 Kyle earned a Master of Science in Resource Management & Conservation from Antioch University New England. His research was on Impediments to Establishing Effective Restoration of Riparian Buffers in Connecticut.
Lisa went to school for Landscape Design at SUNY Cobleskill where she got much hands-on experience in design build; she also worked for greenhouse nursery centers gaining knowledge on propagation. She went on to get a degree in Landscape Architecture from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry.
Kyle and Lisa have been working in the Landscape Design business for over 20 years. We have always held the natural world around us in high regard. We try to treat it with the respect it deserves. While doing designs and installations it was very difficult and frustrating finding a good source for native plant material. Our answer to that problem was to create our own Nursery! Not only does this allow for an easier time for us when doing installations, but it also allows us to educate and offer the plant material to others! By having the plant material available to more people, the land will repair that much faster!
“Land, then, is not merely soil; it is a fountain of energy flowing through a circut of soils, plants, and animals.” Aldo Leopold 1949
